Help?? Coughing up mucus?

Ok it might sound gross but for the last month I've been feeling the need to cough a lot. And it has happens once a week for the last month that I start coughing a lot and I spit up this strip about an inch long. It's green kinda thick and slimy. Any idea on what it can be.? Can I have a lung disease or is it normal??
